On a recent trip to Oatman AZ Home of the world famous "Wild Burrows" and the Goldroad Mining Company, I was treated to a very expensive dog and pony show. Oatman Days, brings out all the stops you see.
A core drilling rig had set up operations along the old Rte 66 in a very obvious location. Begging onlookers and inquisitive types like me to investagate. The operator was very nice and allowed me to take photos of his operation.
A very elaborate set up. The ponds are set up to catch and recirculate the water that they flush the drill waste out of the hole with. Water has to be carted and pumped. A chemical simaler to what placer miners call Clay-Be-Gone is added to the water. This polymer, "Drillers Aid" makes the water heavier and allowes the heavy fraction of the cuttings to be pumped out of the hole. Otherwise the drill will bind and get stuck. No core.
I asked the operator if he found any good looken core. "No, just the usual." It must have been Annual Assesment Time.
