If you are working at East fork. Park at Hetons Flat. Pack in a mile or more and find where the water slows down. Look for big clumps of rocks bunched together on the side of the river’s edge to dig around.
Move these rocks if possible and dig. Dig the back side of these rocks (where the water hits the rock while it moves down river would be the front side) about a foot out from the rock and downward 12 inches or more. This would start to get you into the pay layers of the flood gold. Just remember to run all that material through you sluice box. Keep checking each bucket for the layers which contain the gold as you run it through your sluice box.
Then work that layer outward and around your hole until it plays out. Then move forward and away from the rocks to find another strike.
If you're working at Dredger Ally, the sand bar across the river is as good as any place to set up a dredge. But if you are digging and using a sluice box, then dig down about 8 inches below the water level to 8 inches above the water level along the sand bar and run all that material through your sluice box.
Most of the gold at Dredger Ally is flood gold so run as much material as you can. If you hit bedrock, well even better yet. Fallow it along as best as you can to find the gold. Clean out all cracks in the bedrock as best as you can, with any kind of tool that will allow you to dig deep into the cracks. Run all that material through your sluice box.
Don’t be afraid to move the rocks out of your way anywhere you are working the river.
Under and around the rocks is the best possible place to locate any gold that may have slowed or fallen prey of any eddies that was created behind the rocks.
It ant much but it will get you started.
Good luck.
